Today at CYCHeadlines From the Clubhouse

From the Helm | ‘First Friday’ was a Rousing Success

Commodore Wayne Balsiger

On November 4  the CYC First Friday welcomed 60 people – members, new members and friends, and potential members to our clubhouse.  The event was a pot-luck that included salads, casseroles, shrimp, pies and veggie trays with salmon burgers and hamburgers for grilling on the BBQ.  Our bar was open with volunteer bar tenders Brian Watkins, Tom Kerr, Bill Blodgett and others.  It was an evening for music and conversation with an Olympic gold medalist as well as with  racing and cruising sailors. At least six guests were Shilshole Live-aboards.  We had a great mix of young and older adults, men and woman sailors.  Thanks to Staff Commodore Cindy Gossett, Anne Bassing, Suzette Connolly, Mary

From Left at First Friday were Brian Watkins, Bill Blodgett and new members Nate and Wanda Creitz, she with her new membership card.

Thornton and Helen Hancock of the Social workgroup who organized the event.

Other recent social events

The clubhouse was open on Friday October 29, and Monday, October 31 –  Halloween.  Both evenings were attended by a good number of people who joined us to relax and socialize.  Two zombies movies were shown on Halloween and some members watched them while others conversed about sailing and other topics that interested them.  Brian Watkins and others did a great job organizing and thanks to everyone who came out on short notice.

Restart CYC Mondays

Thanks to everyone that has been participating.  A large number of new and creative ideas are generated here;  some have already been implemented. This coming Monday November 7 at 6:30 PM, we plan to continue our Restart CYC Conversations.  A part of the meeting will be spent in workgroups.  The workgroups that met previously include: Membership Drive, Boats Committee, Race Management, Web-Site (and publications and computers), and Facilities.  Other workgroups that may meet this Monday will include: Junior Program and Boat Shows.  And you can always form your own workgroup to make the club better.  Come join us and participate in planning and energizing our upcoming activities.

Last, remember to put Monday November 28 on your calendar for the Annual General Meeting.  Besides the election of officers and board members we will have important By-Laws changes on the ballot.

To all,  Smooth Sailing,

Wayne Balsiger, Commodore
