A cadre of volunteers led by Mary Thornton painted both floors of the CYC Shilshole Clubhouse over two weeks in early March, putting a bright new finish on an interior that hasn’t seen new paint in many years.

Thornton thanks all of those who pitched in on the effort and said the club is now a place that all members can be proud of and will attract more potential renters who provide a significant source of income for the club.

Other key leaders in the painting effort were Mary’s husband Joel, who took time off from his job as CYC club manager, to spend over 100 hours on the brush-and-roller brigade. Noel Morgan, who is in the construction business, donated over 2 weeks  labor and materials to do the prep work, such as patching walls and baseboards and fabricating a wainscoting for the columns. Without his professional help the beautiful finished job would not have been possible. Because the weather was so rainy, Gary Harr painted for 3 days when he could not do his landscaping job.

Thornton also said Steve Johnson donated much of the cost of the paint, which totaled 21 gallons. She estimated that members contributed about 350 hours to the effort.

Members who volunteered were:

Melanie Edwards, Vicky Ross, Jamie Thomas, Chris McMurdoch, Robert Liston, Eric Becker, Gretchen Hanna, Remmert Wolters, Rich Demler, Larry Anderson, Gary Harr, Derek Storm, Ken Johnson, Jim Geros, Trey McDonald, Sunny Fenton.  Marty Selig who was out of town for the painting weekend sent a painting proxy, Mark Tomila, who painted all day Saturday and Sunday.
