US SAILING ADVANCED RACE MANAGEMENT SEMINAR

The Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle is sponsoring a US SAILING Advanced Race Management Seminar on Saturday and Sunday, February 26 – 27, 2011. This seminar is for experienced race officers who would like to refresh and increase their knowledge of such topics as: organizing an event, writing the Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, RC equipment, race committee preparations, setting the starting line, setting the course, starting, finishing and scoring. The seminar will include discussions of the changes in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009 – 2012 that affect race management.

People interested in becoming certified by US SAILING as Regional or National Race Officers must attend a seminar such as this and pass the associated test(s). The lead instructor will be Mark Townsend. Mark is a US SAILING National Race Officer and has served as the Principal Race Officer at Olympic Trials, World, North American and National Championships. He will be assisted by Leslie Keller. She is a US SAILING Regional Race Officer and a member of the US SAILING Race Management Committee and Race Management Training sub-committee.

The seminar fee is $90.00 for current US SAILING members, and $115.00 for non-members, which includes a six-month introductory membership in US SAILING. The fee includes the seminar materials, continental breakfast, lunch and two breaks each day. Advance registration is essential. Each participant will receive study materials in advance of the seminar. The deadline for advanced registration is February 21, 2011.

Check-in and continental breakfast will be at 0800 on Saturday. On Saturday, the seminar will conclude at 1700. For those interested, the essay test for National Race Officer candidates will be given from 1700 to 1800. On Sunday, a continental breakfast will begin at 0800; the seminar will begin at 0830, and will conclude by 1700.

At the seminar, you will need your own copy of The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012 and the US SAILING Race Management Handbook.
