Plans are now set for CYC's 2002 Fourth of July cruise. The schedule is:
We will join together in a star raft in Liberty Bay. In the last several years our turnout of cruisers for the Poulsbo fireworks show has been too large for one raft. Last year we had at least 14 boats, in four different rafts, and socializing between rafts was limited. A star (circular) raft.will allow easy travel between boats without an upper limit on the size of the raft, and also give more chances to sample everybody's hors-d'oeurves.
We plan to locate the raft approximately one half mile south of the fireworks barge, which should keep us out of the most crowded part of Liberty Bay. I will be anchored by 1500 hours, in a Catalina 34 "Diamond Girl." Look for the CYC burgee.
Quartermaster Yacht Club has invited CYC cruisers to join the QYC July 4th potluck and party on their clubhouse deck. In an e-mail to Fred Pot, Bob Custer of QYC said "It would be great to see you, and the 4th is a real spectacular celebration on Vashon."
Quartermaster Marina is at the southwest corner of the inner harbor in Burton. QYC is located just north of the marina. Dock space will not be available and CYC boats will need to anchor out and use the QYC dinghy dock to go ashore.
Before our Quartermaster Harbor raft breaks up in the morning, we will decide on plans for Gig Harbor. A star raft is probably not suitable in the relatively narrow bay. The trip from Quartermaster to Gig Harbor is only a few miles, which will give time in the day for sailing off Point Defiance and Commencement Bay, for exploring ashore in Gig Harbor, etc. The tide will be flooding through the middle part of the day, with high slack water around 1600 hours and a weak ebb thereafter, allowing easy passage through the harbor entrance. We will get together at happy hour at a time and place to be determined.
We will raft up together off the west side of Blake Island, perhaps in a star raft again depending on our earlier experience. Socializing will follow.
On any of these days, we hope to organize some dinghy races for fun, such as blindfolded or one-oar races. Weather and circumstances will determine what is possible, but bring your dinghy if you have one.
Fred Pot and I would like to have an idea of the number of boats to expect in Poulsbo on July 3rd. Please let either
one of us know if you plan to attend. Our telephone numbers and e-mail addresses are:
