Friday - Saturday, May 10 - 11, 2002 5pm
This Friday and Saturday is CYC's One Design clinic. This is the lake version of the very popular Rookie Rally on the Sound, and is being run by Bruce van Deventer and will feature a rules discussion on Friday evening at the Shilshole clubhouse and a tactics/boatspeed discussion by local Quantum sailmaker and Thistle sailor Bob Pistay at Leschi on Saturday. There will be on-water coaching with videotaping. The cost is 45/65 CYC member/Guest. Here's some more information from Bruce:
The Lake One Design clinic is coming up very soon - this weekend, in fact! I hope that this can become a great fleet-building opportunity for the Leschi fleets. As to the schedule of events and format, we are using Friday night at Shilshole as our main 'rules / regs' classroom time, and we will have the boat speed / tactics section on Saturday morning at Leschi, with the hope to spend more time on the water on the Saturday. There is no event on Sunday, as this turned out to be Mother's Day. Bob Pistay and at least one other local sailor from the Quantum loft here in Seattle have volunteered to do the tactics and boatspeed talk on Saturday and also help provide on-the-water coaching. I would like to have the Friday at Shilshole classroom activity from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
On Saturday, I would like to start the classroom activities at 9:00 am, and plan to finish up the main classroom talks between 10:00 and 11:00, depending on how many questions people have and how much material Bob & Co. want to go over. Next, we will hit the water, for some practice drills. I would like to have enough time to bring people back in for lunch, and this is when fleet coaches can get together with their people and help them with any boat-specific items, and/or provide feedback on the drills. After lunch we will have some practice starts, and then, at the end of the day, a single practice race. We should be all wrapped up by 6:00. As last year, I will videotape. If someone also wants to come out and help videotape, that would be great.
I will be there on Saturday. The current forecast is for sunshine on Saturday which usually means no wind until 4 pm or later at Leschi, but espeically if there is wind this will be great event.
