World-Class Sailors, CYC Members, to Discuss Dinghy Adventures at Annual Meeting

November 10, 2009

World-class sailors and CYC members Fritz Lanzinger and Dalton Bergan will give a slide talk at the CYC annual meeting Tuesday, Nov. 10, at Shilshole, highlighting the action-packed 505 World Championships held recently on San Francisco Bay.

The two also plan to show photos of Moth and skiff racing, according to Bergan, who said, "We both enjoy a wide variety of racing. We've both crossed oceans and do a lot of dinghy racing and everything in between."

Nominating Committee Chairman Harry Brown stuffed ballots into envelopes mailed to senior members in preparation for the CYC annual meeting Nov. 10.

The presentation by Bergan and Lanzinger will add a new element to the annual meeting, which traditionally has been limited to the election of club board members and officers and reports on the club's activities, membership and financial situation.

The bar will open at 1830 and the program will begin at 1900.

Elections and reports will be part of the meeting this year, but the reports will more brief than in the past, allowing time for the slide show.

Running for election is a slate of officers and directors proposed by the club nominating committee, chaired by Harry Brown, who will oversee the election. Senior members are eligible to vote, and ballots were mailed Oct. 29 to all of them.

Members can mail their ballots to the club, according to directions accompanying the ballots, or bring them to the annual meeting and deposit them in the ballot box.

There have been no nominations other than those put forward by Brown's committee, but nominations may be made from the floor at the meeting.

Leading this year's slate are: John Rahn, a J/24 sailor, for commodore; Wayne Balsiger, a Thistle sailor, for vice commodore; and Ken Johnson, a San Juan 24 sailor, for rear commodore.
