2009 CYC Award Nominees Wanted


We are looking for nominees for the CYC Awards for outstanding performances in 2009.

The Awards are:

Boat of the Year — for an outstanding season in CYC and other NW races.
Recent winners were Tantivy (Stuart Burnell), Here & Now (Pat Denny) and Declaration of Independence (Brian Watkins)

Sailor of the Year — consistently races and places in the top tier of dinghy or keelboat races; this award includes those who are outstanding crew or who is on different boats throughout the season.
Recent winners were Kris Bundy, Derick Vranizan and Chris Winnard.

Hans Otto Giese Inspirational — one who has consistently provided leadership and inspiration to CYC and the amateur sailing community.
Recent winners were Dan Falk, Wayne Balsiger and Ed Von Wolffersdorff.

Boating Family — an active family in racing, cruising, CYC activities, other sailing efforts.
Recent winners were Carl/Carol, Jamie & Lindsay Buchan, Frank Flannery/ Gretchan Kaiser, and the Renehan family.

George Spalding Inspirational — most inspirational Junior sailor.
Recent winners were Michael Schalka and Matt Pistay.

Gary Horder Memorial — CYC Junior with active and successful racing program.
Recent winners were Matt Pistay and Michael Schalka.

Greig Memorial Cruising — leadership and cruising accomplishments whether in local or blue waters.
Recent winners were Bob Riggle/Phyllis Macay, Alan/Norma Goldstein and Derek Storm/Cindy Gossett

Dog House — a sailor who handicaps him/her self by unseamanlike activity - usually some bad luck and hopefully with a bit of humor in it

Nominations (with a brief bit of background explaining the basis for the nomination) can be sent by email to Ken Johnson (kenneth.johnson4@comcast.net) or by mail: 3706 So. Ridgeway Place, Seattle, WA 98144. Or you can drop them off at the CYC Shilshole office. Ken will assemble the nominations and present them to the Board for its decisions.
