CYC Gives Event Proceeds to Sailing Foundation

January, 2009

At the CYC awards party on Jan. 30, the club presented a check to the Sailing Foundation for $2,335.38, the net proceeds from a seminar on the Racing Rules of Sailing led by internationally-known rules expert Dick Rose. CYC arranged the seminar Jan. 16 at the Magnuson Park Theater in Seattle.

The check was presented by Commodore Bruce Sherman to Joe Burcar of the Sailing Foundation.

The Sailing Foundation originally was involved in the Intrepid America's Cup campaign in 1974 and also was involved in development of the Life Sling. Currently, it focuses on helping young sailors finance trips to major regattas.

Rose, a CYC member who is on the U.S. Sailing and International Sailing Federation rules committees, drew over 200 to the seminar, with adults paying a $15 admission charge and students paying $5.
