March 7, 14, and 28, 2009
High-tech sailing sportswear manufacturer SLAM and retailer Fisheries Supply have signed an agreement with Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle that gives the companies title sponsorship of the club's 2009 Center Sound Series.
Under the agreement, this year's series will be called the "SLAM Center Sound Series, sponsored by Fisheries Supply."
In exchange for being added to the title and other considerations, the companies will provide CYC with merchandise worth $1,200 to $1,500 to be presented to competitors as prizes for performance in the series.
The series begins March 7 with the Blakely Rocks Race, the traditional start of the competitive sailing season in Seattle. Subsequent events are the Scatchet Head Race, March 14, and the Pully Point Race, March 28.
The sponsorship was negotiated by CYC Fleet Captain Race Jerry Diercks, SLAM distributor Pat Dore and Rachelle O'Haleck of Fisheries Supply.
"We have done good work building on our relationships with both SLAM and Fisheries Supply," Diercks said. We all look forward to continuing our work together to help nourish sailing in the Pacific Northwest for years to come."
Diercks said that in supplying prizes for the series, the sponsorship agreement saves the yacht club a substantial amount of money at a time when the club budget is tight. The sponsors get high visibility at what is one of the region's premier competitive sailing events.
As part of the agreement, CYC will use the new series name on its website and all future publications. The club also will post signs and banners provided by the sponsors at the clubhouse and on the race committee boat.
At parties following each of the races, in addition to overall class trophies, SLAM will present a Crew Gear Award. The award for the Blakely Rocks Race will go the winning boat in the largest PHRF fleet. For Scatchet Head it will go to the winner of the largest one-design fleet, and for Pully Point it will go to the one of the remaining fleets chosen at random.
Boats in the series will be required to place a SLAM boom sticker on the starboard side of their booms within 24 inches of the mast. The stickers will be available at the Shilshole Notice Board at the main entrance of the club.
