CYC's committee boat, YC V, above, launched the fleet on one of five races sailed on Sunday, May 23, the last day of the three-day J/24 North American Championship based at Shilshole. Pat Toole of Santa Barbara, Calif., and the crew of 3 Big Dogs won the event, followed by Seattle's Keith Whittemore sailing Tundra Rose, and Scott Milne's Tremendous Slouch, also from Seattle. Thirty-five boats sailed in the event, including teams from the U.S., Canada, Argentina, Japan and the Dominican Republic. The regatta featured fair winds all three days and almost no rain. Corinthian member Joy Okazaki was the principal organizer of the event. In the photo below, a tight pack of boats reaches toward an offset mark, ready to hoist and head downwind.
