Mini-Transat Presentation Packs Shilshole Clubhouse

The CYC clubhouse drew a standing-room-only crowd Jan 22 for A slide talk by CYC members Chris Tutmark and Craig Horsfield, standing at left, about their experiences in last year's Mini-Transat Race from France to Brazil. The two Seattleites and other race participants crossed the ocean singlehanded in 21-foot boats. Highlights of the trip included Horsfield striking what he believed was a whale and ripping off one of his rudders and part of the transom of his boat, requiring emergency repairs in Portugal before he continued the race. The Friday night presentation raised $638 for the CYC Sea Scout group through contributions at the door. The Sea Scouts plan to divert $100 of the total to Haiti earthquake relief.
