Optimistic Turkey Bowlers

Optimist sailors, displaying the glasses they won as prizes, turned out in force for the Turkey Bowl dinghy regatta Nov. 20 - 21, joining Laser and 505 sailors in a weekend of extremes on Puget Sound. Wind with gusts into the 30s and waves up to six feet kept racers off the course on Shilshole Bay on Saturday, though four intrepid Opti sailors did brave the weather briefly for some practice before their coach herded them home. Wind dropped to a light northerly on Sunday, with the 505s getting off six races, the Lasers four and the Optis three. Jonathan Flack, who organized the Opti's participation in the regatta and will chair CYC's junior instructional program next year, is behind the youngsters in the photo.
