Scott Milne of Seattle and the crew of his J/24 Tremendous Slouch, who made their mark as an elite boat by finishing third in this year's North Americans, ended their season on another high note by running away with class honors in this year's Puget Sound Sailing Championships.

In 10 races sailed on Oct. 2 and 3, Milne finished with four bullets and just 17 total points, 14 ahead of his closest competitor. Thirteen J/24s sailed in PSSC's small-boat event, the first half of a two-weekend regatta staged by Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle.
Other winners included Jacek Suski of Vancouver's Jericho Sailing Centre in the Laser fleet, Angus Bracket of Seattle Yacht Club in 505s, Kirk Smith of CYC in the Snipes and Derek DeCouteu of CYC in the Star fleet.
Members of Milne's crew were Andrew McFarland, bow, Barry Ward, mast, Tom Niccoli, trimmer, and Chris Walker, tactician.
"We had a good weekend for sure," Milne said. "Things are really starting to come together for the crew."
Tremendous Slouch's keel is slightly fatter than most, according to Milne, which gives the boat extra lift upwind but makes it slightly slower downwind, making for some nerve-wracking downwind legs..
"One thing we did very well was to come up with a plan and stick with it even when we felt things were not going as well as we wanted," Milne said. "We had a reasonable understanding of the currents and we got off the line well in each race – we were never sailing in dirt."
