Opening Ceremony

Participants from 10 countries form to kick off a week of sailing at the USCG Academy.

Boats racing

Johnson and White are on boat no. 17.

For the second consecutive time, Scouts Eric Johnson (skipper) and Levi White (crew) of the SSS "Corinthian" qualified by winning the Kelly Cup sponsored by CYC and were selected to represent The Western Region, Area 1 of the Boy Scouts of America in the KOCH cup regatta held at the US Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., August 1 - 6, 2010.

CYC members Bill Lieberman, JoAnn and Darrell Johnson (Eric's Parents) also attended the regatta as staff members.

Johnson and White won the first place honors and the KIWI cup for the "B" fleet in the 2008 regatta at the US Naval Academy in Annapolis.

This time they placed sixth in the 20 boat "A" fleet for a 12-race series in Vanguard 420's. They were a winning contender until one race when they misread the tidal currents in the Thames River, and there were no throw outs allowed.

Ten nations competed, and a Florida crew won the KOCH Cup. A New Zealand crew with a 14-year-old girl skipper was a very close second.

A great time was had by all. The Coast Guard venue was superior and the camaraderie was excellent.

The photos show our CYC team with an Australian SS in our midst, the whole fleet at Evening Retreat, and the racing activities on the River.
