Capaz Crew

February 11 - Brad and P.J. Baker:
Mexico/S. Pacific/Hawaii to Seattle

In 2009 the Baker Family (Brad and PJ with sons Bryce and Austin) embarked on a 15 month sailing adventure on their Custom Perry 48 Ketch Capaz. Selling their house, taking the boys out of school and a sabbatical from their jobs selling boats at Swifture, the Baker family was primed for a bluewater adventure. And a grand adventure it was from coastal Mexico to the lush tropical anchorages in French Polynesia and finishing up with the incredible beauty of British Columbia. Come and share their adventures.

Beachfront at Ninstints

February 18 - Doug Stewart/Mike Irish:
Barkley Sound/Ucluelet/Tofino to Hot Springs Cove

In the summer of 2010, Doug Stewart and Mike Irish took their Cal 40 Madrugador to the outside of Vancouver Island for a week of casual, but competitive, racing with Norpac in the beauty of Barkley Sound, using rocky outcrops as turning marks. Besides Doug and Mike, the crew consisted of the Nichols Family with son-in-law Dawson, daughter Jenny, granddaughters Hannah 10 years old and Rosie 7 plus Uncle Bob and the Nichols family dog Reina. Joan Stewart joined the crew for week two. Madrugador won first in class and first overall for the regatta. The trophies awarded included a rubber chicken. Doug and Mike will share their racing adventures, along with the camaraderie of the Norpac Fleet and casual cruising after Norpac as Madrugador headed north to Tofino and Hot Springs Cove in scenic Clayquot Sound for some rest and relaxation.

February 25 - Bob and Margaret Liston:
Adventures in the Haida Gwaii (Queen Charlotte Islands)

Bob and Margaret Liston and a couple of stalwart cruising friends spent much of last June exploring the Haida Gwaii (formerly known as the Queen Charlotte Islands) on their J-40, Tula. They will discuss the planning for the trip, obtaining the required cruising permit, their experiences in cruising the southern islands and visits to the native sites. The Haida Gwaii are wild and remote where nature is definitely in charge, nevertheless they offer an abundance of scenic and secure anchorages and wonderful sailing opportunities.
