Velella Cruising Log

In Ishigaki, Japan

April, 2007

We have finally made it to Japan, after planning to come here for so long. We caught colds in Lan Yu, so had to be very careful not to cough while we were meeting with the quarantine officers and filling out paperwork indicating we didn't have any contagious diseases. Checking in was quite easy with everyone coming to the boat in an efficient and organized fashion, though we were embarrassed with the state of the boat and ourselves and desperately needed to get some more sleep. Our sail here from Lan Yu was a combination of light winds, steady rain (yuck!), continuous lightning the last night and then finishing with an intense beat into a busy shipping center. Boy were we relieved to stop. Massive piles of damp laundry. It is much cooler here - cold even. We've got gorgeous sunny skies right now, but rainy weather predicted over the next few days. Haven't had a chance to explore yet.

Will update the blog soon with our experiences in Lan Yu. Cheers, Wendy and Garth
