2009 Frigid Digit Laser and Radial Regatta

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS (draft)

Shilshole Bay Marina - Seattle, Washington

January 29-30, 2011

(Final version will be handed out on Saturday morning). See also the Notice of Race.

1. RULES

The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the current Racing Rules of Sailing and the rules of Laser.

2. MEETINGS

Competitor meeting will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday at CYC (Shilshole Bay Marina). Competitors should be prepared to proceed to the race area immediately following the meeting.

3. NOTICES TO COMPETITORS

Notices will be posted on the official notice board. The location will be announced at the competitors? meeting.

4. SCHEDULE

The warning signal for the 1st race will be 1157 on Saturday and 1057 on Sunday. Subsequent races will be held as soon as possible after the end of the previous race.? No starts after 1600 Saturday and 1500 Sunday.

5. CLASS FLAGS AND STARTING SEQUENCE

The class flag for the laser is the #1 code pennant (white w/ red dot). The class flag for the radials is the #2 code pennant (blue w/ white dot). Starting sequence will be 3 minutes.? Whistles will signal the countdown as follows:

  • 3 3 long blasts;
  • 2 2 long blasts;
  • 1-30 1 long & 3 short;
  • 1 1 long;
  • 30 3 short;
  • 20 2 short;
  • 10 1 short;
  • 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 1 short each;
  • GO 1 Long.

6. RACING AREA

The racing area will be described at the competitors? meeting.

7. COURSES and MARKS

The mark description and most likely courses will be described at the competitors meeting. The course to be sailed for each race will be provided by hail from the RC.

8. STARTING AND FINISHING LINES

The starting and finishing lines will be described at the competitors meetings. No restrictions exist for crossing the start/finish line while racing.

9. TIME LIMIT

The time limit for each race will be 30 minutes for the first boat to finish. Boats finishing more than 10 minutes after the first boat finishes will be scored DNF.

10. PROTESTS

Protests shall be delivered to the race committee within 1 hour after the race committee boat docks. The protest time limit and a list of protests received will be posted on the notice board. Hearings will be held as soon as possible after racing each day in a place described at the competitors meeting.

11. SCORING

The Low Point System of Appendix A of the racing rules will apply. If at least 5 races are completed, each boat's worst score will be excluded from her series score. One race constitutes a series.

12. TROPHIES

Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers in each class. The presentation will be held as soon as the final scoring has been completed.

13. SAFETY

Competitors shall wear a life jacket at all times. The wearing of wet/dry suits and insulated boots and hats are strongly encouraged. Sailors should rig their boats so that their centerboards, rudders, tillers and masts will not become disengaged if they capsize. A competitor near anyone who becomes separated from his or her boat or appears to be in distress shall abandon the race and stand by to help until that person regains contact with their boat. (You will be eligible for redress in accordance with the racing rules.)
