Commodore Gibson, August 6-7, One of Club’s Best Loved Traditions
CYC cruisers and racers alike are gearing up for this year’s Commodore Gibson race/cruise August 6-7, one of club’s best-loved traditions and a great way to spend a weekend sailing to Port Ludlow and back.
Derek Storm and Cindy Gossett are coordinating this year’s event, which will feature a reverse start at Shilshole on Saturday morning. The group has reserved the picnic area at Port Ludlow Saturday night, and Sunday’s race back to Shilshole will feature another reverse start.
“If you don’t want to race, nobody will think badly of you and you can just cruise to Port Ludlow,” Storm said. “Or even drive in your car. The party part is a potluck around the fireplace in the very pleasant picnic area.”
He said the CYC Racebook has the wrong dates for the event and should be ignored. Participants should make a reservation at the marina by calling (360) 437-0513. Let the marina know you will be with the CYC group.
Storm (storm@drizzle.com) also needs to know your PHRF handicap or will help you figure it out.
The schedule for the event is:
9:00 a.m. Saturday. Skipper’s meeting in the Shilshole Clubhouse (where you will
find out your times for the reverse starts and get the details of the sailing instructions.)
10:00 a.m. Start in front of the breakwater. Reverse handicap start – slow boats start first.
6:00 p.m. Potluck at the Port Ludlow Marina.
7:00 p.m. Awards. (We try to have an award for every boat.)
8:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. Sunday. Dockside breakfast potluck.
11:00 a.m. (approx). Reverse start for sail/race home.
