From the Helm | Congratulations to Our Newest Honorary Life Member
Congratulations to Derek Storm as CYC’s newest Honorary Life Member. Derek has served the club well in many ways, especially as webmaster from 1997 -2011, mathematician, and technical consultant for our data base for many years. His election by the board to this honor was announced at the Annual Meeting. A second presentation and the history of his service will be part of the Christmas Monday lunch on December 19.
New Dues Structure
At the Annual Meeting, the Club’s membership elected all the proposed nominees to the Officers and Board positions and approved the proposed amendments to the by-laws, including changes to the dues structure and including a “family” membership for Adult and Senior members. While dues for most Adults/Families are now $35/month or $420 a year, the Club is asking continuing members to choose to keep paying dues at least equal to the 2010 dues until we increase our membership under the new dues structure. At the Annual Meeting, about 20 members volunteered to be “Supporting” members paying an additional $200 in 2012 and five members volunteered to be “Sustaining” members at $500 or higher levels. Thanks very much for this great support!
Membership Drive
We are starting a membership drive now that the new dues structure is in place. The theme is “I’m a Member, Get a member” and each of us needs to promote Club membership to our friends, crews and people we meet. All of us run into people that say “I used to sail.” That is one category that we can promote to. Others are our crews and competitors. The Membership Committee will have more details shortly.
Boat Show
The Club will have a boat show booth in January to promote the Club including our junior sailing activities. We are still looking for volunteers to help man the booth for a few hours (which includes a free pass to the boat show for the day you volunteer).
Sprit
With the renewed spirit at CYC, many members have been participating in the social events. In addition to our Monday evenings, the First Fridays are going well and, on December 4th, the successful CYC Junior race team held their awards banquet with over fourteen Juniors attending. Gaston Martin and I handed out certificates to each of the participating juniors.
The Club is installing a new TV donated by me and other members at the Annual Meeting. We raised over $2,000 at the meeting in a few minutes to more than cover the purchase and installation costs.
At the Annual Meeting I thanked all the officers and board members this year for their hard work. Thanks again to all the members that have donated time, effort and money to improve CYC in 2011 and 2012.
Smooth Sailing,
Wayne Balsiger
