Memorial Weekend Cruise | Mystery Bay/Sequim Bay
Meet in Mystery Bay or continue to Sequim Bay for a quieter weekend.
Sat. May 28 – anchor and raft up.
Depart May 30.
The Mystery Bay is still a bit of a Mystery to many! Mystery Bay is a small bay inside Marrowstone Island. Most comments go like this: Where is it? Up South of Port Townsend. Oh yea, Port Townsend. How far is that? 35-40 miles. Where are we going? Inside, between Indian Island and Marrowstone? Hhmmm. It’s Kilisut Harbor on the chart, and you have to get there from just NE of the protected Navy Zone. If you fit, you can go under the Port Townsend Canal bridge East of Hadlock. Check your chart for clearance. Big boats may have to go around the North end of Indian Island like they are headed to Port Townsend. Mind the shallows at the corner and north end of Marrowstone. Here’s a couple “chart pics”. The flood current starts about 2pm going into the Kilisut Harbor and the tide is -0.05’(check your own charts) so you shouldn’t have any trouble with the depth in the channel.
There is easy access to shore to enjoy hiking or biking and be sure to visit the local General Store – you will think you have been transported back in time. There is traditionally a Tractor Parade on Sunday about noon or 1. Buy some oysters and roast them on a campfire on shore. Hike to Fort Flagler or the beach on the east side of the island. This is a great place for paddle boards and kayaks.
Hint: Enter the channel at Marrowstone Island on an incoming tide. Follow the channel markers.
