First, a shout-out of thanks to NOEL MORGAN and all the volunteers who helped staff the CYC booth at the recent Seattle Boat Show.  Noel helped organize the volunteers, and, with the help of STUART BURNELL and BRIAN WATKINS, moved the booth equipment in, set the booth up and, on Super Bowl Sunday, took it all down and back to the CYC Clubhouse.  And thanks to BOB ROSS who first pushed the idea of a CYC booth, and made the necessary arrangements with the Marine Trades Association.

A list of the volunteers who staffed the booth is set out below (and our apologies and appreciation for any we may have missed) many did multiple shifts. The Club benefits when people from different backgrounds and sailing experience come and work together for the Club.  And, despite our location at one end of the hall, we had nearly 300 visitors to the booth and received 10 Club membership applications.  At our February Board meeting, we accepted over 30 new membership applications, half of which were Adult Family memberships, likely an all-time record!

In his post-show report, Noel recommended that CYC have a booth next year, probably smaller (although the Opti was a big draw for kids) and located in the main part of the show, like the other yacht clubs.  Noel noted several matters we could do better – but for the first time, I am very pleased about how well the Boat Show booth looked and performed.  Thanks Again To All Who Made That Possible.

Secondly, speaking of volunteering – we always can use more volunteers.  Here are some areas and whom you can contact:

  • Web Page, computer, etc – Nojan Moshiri (nojan@mac.com);
  • Boat maintenance, especially the Club-owned Opti’s – Brian Watkins (brian.watkins.cyc@live.com);
  • Membership outreach – Sunny Fenton (sunnyfenton@gmail.com);
  • Club facilities – Steve Johnson (sjohnson@j-arch.com);
  • Social and educational – Cindy Gossett (gossett@drizzle.com);
  • Sponsorship and business membership – Bob Ross (bob@sailnorthwest.com).

Thirdly, if you have not already, please renew your CYC membership.  And consider becoming either a Supporting ($200 contribution) or Sustaining ($500 or more) member – so far we have raised over $16,000 from this successful program!

Finally, by the time you read this, we are back on the water!  After all of our meetings, and planning, it is great to be sailing again.  Thanks to BILL BLODGETT, Fleet Captain Race, who has labored hard to make the many necessary changes to the Race Book (and running the KAM booth at the Boat Show) due to the revisions to membership and race fees.

Please talk up the CASUAL CLASS STARTS for each of the Center Sound Series – they are FREE for CYC members and only $25 for non-members ($50 for signing up for all 3 of the races).  More relaxed sailing, shorter courses, use or do not use flying sails – just have FUN.

And that is what being at CYC is all about.
