One Day Race Management Seminar at Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle
Would you ever like to join the Race Committee team? When you’re racing, would you like to know everything about your sport, including what the Race Committee might be up to, to improve your performance? This seminar helps you get started or extend your skills, perfect for people who have some race committee experience, and newcomers are also welcome. The topics covered include
- RC objectives and responsibilities
- competition formats
- sailing instructions
- jobs
- equipment
- setting the course
- starting and starting penalties
- during the race
- finishing
- scoring
Instructors: The lead instructor is Leslie Keller, a US Sailing Regional Race Officer and member of the US Sailing Race Officer Training Committee. She will be assisted by Brian Watkins, a US Sailing Regional Race Officer and Judge and our Area L Race Officer administrator.
Cost: $55 for US Sailing members and non-members get a discount on membership. Includes snacks and lunch. Pleas sign up early!
What to Bring: At the seminar you will need your own copy of The Racing Rules of Sailing 2013-2016.
Study Materials: To prepare for the seminar you should try to answer the Study Questions, which are available on the US Sailing web site at: One Day Race Management Seminar Study Questions.
Certification: For those interested in certification as a US Sailing Club Race Officer, this course includes an optional test at the end based on the topics covered. Taking the seminar and passing the test are major elements of the certification criteria that you can accomplish at this time. Note: Participants who carefully study the practice questions before the seminar tend to do much better on the test.
