America’s Cup Designer; Haida Gwai Cruiser to Speak at Monday Lunch.

CYC’s Monday Lunch is fortunate to have two exceptionally interesting speakers on the schedule for the second half of May.

May 16-Tom Speer, America’s Cup Designer. Tom is leader of Team Oracle’s design group working on a 72′ catamaran that will be sailed by Team Oracle in defense of the America’s Cup in 2013 on San Francico Bay.  Tom is a retired Boeing engineer who joined Oracle upon leaving Boeing.  He will talk about the design parameters for the 2013 America’s Cup defense, the challenges the design team faces, and some approaches in meeting those challenges.  Tom was also involved in design of the AC45 catamaran which is now being sailed in a series of regattas leading up to the Cup competition itself.

May 23.  Bob Liston, Blue Water Cruiser. Bob is a long-time CYC member, having joined the club in 1966.  In 2010 Bob, his wife Margaret, and two friends spent most of June in their 40′ sloop cruising the Haida Gwai (formerly know as the Queen Charlotte Islands).  Bob will talk about planning the cruise, getting permits, and other details of preparation, as well as notable adventures on the cruise, visits to native sites, and the majestic scenery of BC’s northern coastal region.

CYC’s Monday Lunch meets every Monday at the Shilshole clubhouse.  Members start to gather at 1130, lunch is served at 1200, and the program begins at 1230.  The speaker’s presentation, along with a follow-up question and answer session, typically ends at around 1330.
All are welcome.
