2017 Summer Sail Camps
CYC offers sailing camps to children of abilities. Whether you want your beginner to enjoy his or her first time on the water or your seasoned racer to perfect roll-tacking, CYC offers a fun, safe way for your child to enjoy sailing.
Instructors
Since 2015, we have partnered with Sail Sand Point to provide qualified, trained instructors for our camps. All instructors are U.S. Sailing certified and CPR/First Aid trained, have a Washington Boater safety card and have passed a WA State background check. Many have years of personal sailing and teaching experience. Some are even collegiate sailors.
Schedule
Camps run Monday to Friday, 9:30am-4pm (9-9:30 am drop off; 4-4:30pm pick up). Not all camp levels are available every week so sign up early!
Beginner Opti – Starting to Sail!
This camp introduces kids to the basics of sailing a small boat by putting them in the driver’s seat of an Opti sailboat. The main focus of this repeatable camp is the development of basic skills for a strong sailing foundation. By the end of camp most sailors will be able to put together an Opti and have some control of the boat in light breeze. This camp is a good fit for brand new sailors and returning beginning sailors alike.

Intermediate Opti – Developing the Basics
This camp is a good fit for sailors who are familiar with topics introduced in the Youth Beginner camp, and introducing increasingly advanced concepts. The goal by the end of camp is to have all sailors comfortable sailing both upwind and downwind in medium breeze.
Prerequisite: Youth Beginner (or equivalent)

Opti Racing
Sailors who join this camp will be introduced to the basics of racing sailboats and the racing rules and by the end of the week will be competing with each other on the water. Participants must be able to sail an Opti successfully upwind and downwind in breeze up to 10 knots, and tack and gybe correctly.

Refund Policy for Junior Sail Camp and Clinics
Registrations that are cancelled more than 4 weeks before the first day of class will be refunded, less a $25 processing fee. Registrations cancelled within 4 weeks of the first day of class will only be refunded if CYC is able to fill the vacated spot, less a $25 processing fee. No refunds will be issued once a class has started. CYC reserves the right to cancel programs that do not meet the minimum number of participants, and will attempt to place participants in an alternate program or, if unable, will issue a refund.
