Racing Through the Year
2015 has come and gone at a fast and furious pace. CYC started the racing season with the Center Sound Series where 75 boats participated in 3 races during the strong March winds. Several CYC boats did not make it back from those race with all of their gear intact. Most notable was Absolutely, owned and sailed by the MaCaulay family, who lost their mast and ended up having to replace their old boat with a new Absolutely (2), a Farr 395. After a summer of racing, the club entered a busy last quarter of the year, hosting the Star District 6 Championship’s and assisting the Seattle Yacht Club with the Star North American Championships. Both events were won by the CYC father-and-son-team of Carl and Jamie Buchan. Following the Stars came PSSC small boat where we saw 67 boats complete 9 races over two days and PSSC big boat where 71 boats completed 9 races over 2 days. The following week, CYC hosted the Farr 30 world championships where 14 boats from Canada, California, Maryland, and Washington (representing seven yacht clubs) completed 9 race in 10 to 20 knots of breeze over 4 days. Soon, we will be completing this year’s sailing season with the Turkey Bowl held the 21st and 22nd of November before going into the holiday season. It has been a spectacular year of sailing with a lot of good things going on at your club.
As you know the Annual Membership Meeting will be on Monday, November 23, 2015. The social hour will begin at 6:00PM and the Meeting will start at 7:00PM. We will be electing Club officers for 2016 and three new directors for two-year terms ending in 2018. We will also talk about the Club’s status, this year’s accomplishments, and plans and hopes for next year. By the time you read this you should have received your ballot for the Annual Membership Meeting. Please take the time to vote and to attend the meeting.
As my term as Commodore comes to an end, I would like to thank you all of the support and effort that everyone took this year to support the Club we have has a very good year, membership is up, participation in club events increased thanks to our Fleet Captain’s Jon Henderson (Race) and Peggy Watt (Cruise) for all the efforts that they put in to support the club. I also want to thank all of the Board Members for the efforts that each one took to keep CYC on track. In particular, Wanda Creitz, Melanie Edwards, Shauna Walgren, and Kerry Bellingham for organizing the many social events this year, including those coming up this Holiday Season. As you come and go through the club house this holiday season I ask that you stop by the office and let Beth and Celeste know how much you appreciate how they have made your visits to the club and the race course seem effortless. They have been the backbone of the clubs efforts this past year.
If I do not see you at the Annual Meeting have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
