September 29: LifeSling Clinic
Sunday September 29, 2013
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Ever wonder how that LifeSling pouch on the back of your boat actually works in real life? Join us at the CYC Clubhouse to find out!
Classroom instruction, dock drills and on the water drills taught by members of The Sailing Foundation.
- Class starts with a video and slide show followed by a Question and Answer Session.
- Move to the docks to rig the boats and practice lifting the “victim” from the dock aboard the boat.
- Break for lunch
- Go out on the boats where each person will recover a “victim” from the water by themselves.
We will need to have two boats for the on the water training. These boats will need to have their own LifeSling and lifting gear. Please let us know if you would be willing to have your boat used for this purpose.
The Sailing Foundation will provide an instructor and “victim” (complete with immersion suit) for each boat for the on the water training.
Advance registration required. Space for the complete class is limited to 14 people.
Additional people are welcome to attend the classroom portion and watch the on the dock drills. If your entire crew would like to learn how the LifeSling actually works, consider having one or two people attend the full class and have them pass the information on to the rest of the crew. It is always a great idea to know how the gear works on the boat you generally sail on. The remaining crew is welcome to attend the morning portion of the clinic.
Cost: Class Fee is a minimum $5 donation to The Sailing Foundation payable on the day of the class.
Lunch: There will be a one hour break for lunch midway. Please provide your own lunch.
