Cruising | June 14-15: Blakely Harbor & Rock — Low Tide Exploration
Ten CYC boats and about 20 members enjoyed the cruise to Blakely Harbor and Blakely Rock. Some boats stayed Friday through Sunday and enjoyed a raft-up pot-luck. Some just came for the day. But everyone enjoyed meeting new friends, as well as seeing old ones.
Blakely Harbor Raft Up with Low Tide Exploration of Blakely Rocks
Few sailors can say that they’ve been ON Blakely Rock… and even fewer can say they have enjoyed the experience. Come join this exclusive group!
June 14 & 15 is the best weekend low tide in June, at about minus 3′ around noon both days. So it’s a perfect time to visit Blakely rock for tide-pooling, and exploring. Bring kids, pets, and friends!
Here’s the general plan, but all activities are optional; this will be a relaxed cruise!
- Raft up in Blakely Harbor Friday and/or Saturday night, or just come over for the day. Look for boats flying their CYC burgees, and fly yours
- Go tide-pooling/sightseeing on Blakely Rock at low tide around noon on Saturday and/or Sunday. Bring a dinghy and/or kayak to go to the rock, or grab a ride with others who are bringing dinghies. If the weather is calm it may be possible to anchor off Blakely Rocks to ferry people ashore but extreme caution should be used when anchoring in this area. Bring a picnic lunch, and shoes that can get wet.
- Go hiking ashore later Saturday afternoon; walk to the Port Blakely Historic Cemetery or take an easy trail hike to Fort Ward on Rich Passage.
- Share a Saturday pot-luck dinner on the raft
