Club Offering Remote Medical Training Course

July 26, 2009

CYC will offer a 16-hour "remote medical treatment" course Saturday, July 25, and Sunday, July 26, at the Shilshole clubhouse for cruisers, long-distance racers, and others who might be confronted with emergencies when they are far from hospitals and health care professionals.

The class will be put on by Remote Medical International, a Seattle-based medical and rescue services company specializing in remote areas. RMI provides training, equipment, telemedicine support and onsite medical care for anyone who works or plays where the hospital is not an option.

"If you are a blue-water sailor or plan to be, you should take this course," said Suzette Connolly, CYC board secretary, who made arrangements for the course at the club and has cruised the South Pacific.

"This is also a good opportunity for teenagers who need a first aid class," Connolly said.

Price of the course is $110 for all CYC senior, intermediate, junior and honorary life members, $150 for associate members and $165 for the general public. The prices were listed incorrectly on several flyers posted at Shilshole and Leschi.

Registration is available online at the Remote Medical web site, http://www.remotemedical.com/
