Quick Start
The Seattle Laser Fleet is a member of District 6 of the North American region of the International Laser Class Association. The charter of the fleet is to promote Laser racing and Laser activities in the Seattle area. The fleet is closely linked with Corinthian Yacht Club one design racing program on Shilshole Bay from April to September and CYC membership is strongly encouraged. A full schedule and sailing instructions are available on the CYC web site. Winter racing from October through March is informal and normally happens on Sundays launching from Shilshole Marina at noon — though there are often lasers out sailing at all times on the weekend. In late January, the fleet hosts the annual Frigid Digit Regatta to start the season.
Communication
The Seattle Laser email list allows anyone to post a question, comment, tip, announcement, etc. to a large group of Laser sailors. An international Laser E-mail list (see www.laser.org for subscription information) is also available and is very mature with active Laser sailors from all over the globe participating. If it happens in the Laser Class, the people on the E-mail list know about it first.
Laser Storage in Seattle
Shilshole Bay Marina dinghy floats. Access to the floats is in no way part of your membership in a Yacht Club or Fleet. The Seattle International 14 Fleet owns the outside and middle floats. Both floats have room for multiple Lasers and the middle float has two racks that will hold 8 Lasers each. Space is leased by the year only (the Port of Seattle collects its moorage whether your boat is on the float or not). For new people on the floats the cost is pro-rated through the end of the year. You cannot take your boat off in December and expect pro-rated moorage in May. The I-14 point of contact is Dennis Williams. Please contact him at dennis@williamsphoto.com.
The Port of Seattle owns the newer eastern most float and Seattle Yacht Club manages the leasing of it. The inside float has room for multiple lasers and also has two racks capable of holding 8 Lasers each. Contact Doug Gordon (SYC rep) at 206-328-7009. Please do not leave your boat on the floats without first contacting Dennis or Doug. Here is a summary of the costs as of Oct 2006.
