J/24 Fleet Party Recap
Friday, March 20, the J/24 fleet kicked off the season with a party and awards ceremony at CYC. Co-fleet captains Mark Ross and Noel Morgan awarded the following trophies: Lake Championship, Tundra Rose (Keith Whittemore and crew); Fleet Championship, Tremendous Slouch (Scott Milne and crew); Pacific Northwest Championship, Self Abuse (Harry Dursch and crew); Tuesday Night Warrior, Baba Louie (Mark Laura and crew); Most Persistent Newcomer, Roshambo (Mark and Nikki Daniel and crew). Also announced was a plan for a J/24 to become available to charter for CYC members interested in sailing with the J/24 fleet (with experienced fleet member on board). This plan is becoming a reality due to the generous donations of several members, including Hans Spiller (the J/24) and Keith Whittemore (sails). What a great way to introduce both new and experienced sailors to the fleet!
The event featured a raffle full of prizes from local businesses. Prizes included two free haul outs from CSR Marine; beautiful handmade sail bags from Dave at Barkley Sound Bags; eight pounds of cheese (the “Colossal Cut”) from Beecher’s Handmade Cheese (Harry Dursch won the cheese and promised he’ll bring it to the next fleet BBQ at Leschi!); and gift certificates from Fran’s Chocolates and Rays Boathouse and Café. Thank you to our sponsors! If you are out and about in Seattle, please stop in and support them.
Finally, the J/24 fleet would like to thank CYC for all their help with the event, especially Jerry Diercks, Brian Watkins, bartender volunteers Sara and Daniel, and the awesome staff (including chef Jeromi).
