CYC 70th Birthday & Brian Watkins Thank You

On Thursday, February 12, 2015, more than 120 people attended the Club’s 70th Birthday Party and the Brian Watkins Surprise Appreciation Party. It was a very fun night honoring the history of the Club and expressing gratitude for the incredible service and leadership Brian has put forth.

Vice Commodore, Jerry Diercks led the proceedings and made the point that “the greatest expression of thanks we can offer to Brian is for all of us to enjoy the fruits of his labor and be engaged in making things happen for each other. Therefore, the Award is not just a plaque; it is a functional tool to help members communicate with each other about what needs doing/how to participate. You will find a collection of sign-up sheets detailing tasks involved in making things happen. Check it out and sign up to participate.”

The presentation award consists of a life-ring, (representing Brian’s role at the Club), with the Club logo in stainless steel, The inscription reads:

Presented to Brian Watkins
for his tireless service, insight and leadership
from 2010 – 2015 (and beyond).

As CYC struggled with years of declining membership and vibrancy, Brian catalyzed a “restart” bringing the community together to re-imagine what Corinthian Yacht Club of Seattle could be. He then led a cultural revolution and operational overhaul of the Club making it once again vital and sustainable. Brian re-established the expectation for our Club to be a platform for members to do things for each other.

This award honors Brian’s unmatched contribution to the Club
and is intended to inspire all CYC members
to participate in keeping the Club and our community alive.
