CYC Juniors Win at Opening Day

The CYC Juniors won First Place in the Sponsored Youth Decorated Class at Opening Day on Saturday May 2, 2015. This year’s theme for the Opening Day Parade was Myth’s and Monsters and the CYC Juniors won with their design of a giant Kraken in the main triangle and  “Sea-Y-Sea” Monsters banners surrounded by a haze of bubbles.

Commodore Stuart Burnell and his wife Pam generously donated the use of their J-109 TANTIVY for the Juniors use in the parade. Board Member Paul Kalina was the overall coordinator for the Junior Entry for the Parade. Juniors lending their artistic talents to create the giant Kraken and represent CYC Juniors in the parade were Matthew and Jonathan Sugg (Will Sugg) , Linnea and Harris McCaa (Kirsten Bergstrom), and Ellie and Ian Blakemore (Will and Pamela Blakemore). Paul Baker assisted the Juniors by creating the body for the Kraken and designing the rigging placement on TANTIVY along with help from Paul Kalina, Will Sugg, Stuart Burnell and Suzette Connolly. Paul Baker also captained TANTIVY through the parade course as Commodore Burnell was representing CYC Seattle in his official capacity aboard one of the SYC Spectator Boats.

We would like to thank

  • Brad Cole and Prism Graphics for their design and contribution of the fantastic banners for the bows
  • Ballard Sails for the loan of a batten to create the body of the Kraken. Congratulations to the CYC Juniors for a job well done!
