New Years' Cruise (Dec 31, 2001 - Jan 1, 2002)
Starting with February 2002
Fridays In February with guest speakers at Shilshole
The bar will be open at 6:30 and the program will start at 7:00
February 1nd
Emergency Procedures
Ted Sarandos of the Vessel Assist Association of America will talk about emergency procedures, equipment and communications. Ted has some hairy stories to tell.
Experienced Visual Navigation Suite Instructor Jean Penney will show us how to use an electronic chart for navigation. She will use a projector connected to her laptop computer to demonstrate what VNS can do.
February 8th
Here, fishy, fishy, fishy
Fellow Member Dick Gohrke will teach us where, when and how to catch fish, crabs and shrimp. He and his wife Sharon have cruised NW waters extensively and have caught more than most of us combined. Dick, like Ted Sarandos, has stories to tell…. and not just fish stories.
Fellow Member Russ Cohn will then show us where to go and what to look out for in the South Sound in preparation for the Extended South Sound Cruise planned for Labor Day, 2002.
February 15th
Afghanistan
Fellow Member Dick Marshall made trip to Afghanistan a few years ago as a guest of the US Ambassador. Dick spoke to the Monday Lunch group a few weeks ago about his adventures and observations. He is an excellent speaker and his insights into both the history and the future of this 'country in the news' are worth repeating for a larger group.
February 22rd
Desolation Sound and North
Destinations, where to go and what to watch for in Desolation Sound and waters further north. Fellow Member John Knapp will talk about his experiences in (and to) Desolation Sound last summer. This will be followed by a presentation about Northern British Columbia waters by Fellow Member Sharon Gohrke.
Beach Clean-up Cruise to Blake Island. Contact Fred to coordinate your potluck contribution. Volunteer to help clean up Blake Island and do our community good services.
Come join CYC at Kingston for the annual Pizza Cruise. Kingston is a fun stop and there is plenty to keep you busy. We will all meet later at the pizza parlor for dinner, stories and fun!
Notify Fred if you are coming, so he can get the numbers right with the Pizza Parlor. Call Fred on Anneke on Ch 68 when you arrive at the marina. Meet on Anneke for pre-dinner socializing at 1700. Pizza is at the Luna Bella Ristorante, up the main street from the ferry, at 1830.
May 25th -28th Memorial Weekend
Leave on Friday night and meet in Kingston. Saturday it is off to Mystery Bay for a raft-up. Wind your way to the back of the bay. The little store on shore has fresh oysters by sack to put on the grill. Sunday we have all day to get to Port Townsend's Pt. Hudson Marina.
June 15-16
Lake Washington Cruise to Cozy Cove.
Leukemia Cup (June 15) has a cruisers' class planned, for those planning to remain on the Sound.
Join us for the traditional July 3rd in Poulsbo. July 3rd is on a Wednesday, so sail on over after work and hook up with some of the folks already on the hook. Herb Holley is the Cruise Master for this one. He plans a star raft-up in Liberty bay, approximately one half mile south of the fireworks barge. This will ensure that we can all be together. His boat will be the Catalina 34 "Diamond Girl" flying the CYC burgee, of course. He plans to anchor by 1500. Watch the spectacular fireworks display and sail on to the equally spectacular Quartermaster Harbor 4th of July Fireworks, possibly joining the Quartermaster Yacht Club festivities. We will have all day Friday to get to Gig Harbor and dinner at the Tides restaurant. Saturday it is on to the West Side of Blake Island for a raft-up and a hike around the island (bring your dinghy).
More details on the Fourth of July Cruise
August 3-4th
It is the traditional Commodore Gibson Race to Pt. Ludlow. Will have a pot-luck BBQ in the park afterwards and breakfast in the morning to start the race off back to Seattle. This is sure to bring out the racing spirit in all of us.
Schedule:
Please call the Port Ludlow Marina at (360) 437-0513 to reserve your slip. Tell them you are with CYC. Some slips are already reserved under CYC.
If you are planning to race, contact Fred with your PHRF rating by Wed July 31st so he can put together a start order. This will be a reverse start and you will need to record your finish position or time.
If you don't have a PHRF rating, Fred will make one up for you.
Awards are presented for more than just winning. If you've never been to this party before, 2002 is the year to come and experience one of the most fun (and sometimes outrageous) events at CYC.
August 31 - September 8th
Extended South Sound Trip to the Tacoma Yacht Club Marina on Saturday evening, Jarrels Cove on Sunday evening, Olympia on Monday. For those having to get back to work there will be a van on Monday evening to Shilshole and back to Olympia on Friday evening the 6th . The cruising itinerary for those who don't have to work will be determined later. On Saturday the 7th it is off to Dockton on Vashon Island.
October 5-6th
Racer's Cruise & Octoberfest in Eagle Harbor. Olson 30's, San Juan 24's, heck, even I 14's! Stay at the city dock, camp in the adjacent City Park. This year we will be sampling International Beers and some micro brews too. For those of you that prefer the Wine category there will be something for you as well. Dinner at the Brewery Pub that overlooks the harbor.
Reminder that City Dock is first come first serve. We may be able to stern-tie boats to the dock if that become necessary. More info
November 7th (Thursday)
Instead of the annual Cruise Dinner to South Lake Union, Fred will host a dinner at the Shilshole Clubhouse for the annual planning meeting for 2003. The meeting needs to be this early in order to get our schedule into the 2003 racebook. The bar will be open at 6pm and the dinner will commence at 7pm.
